What is the best free way to upscale video?
There is no tool that upscales unlimited video for free with no watermark and no install — anyone claiming otherwise is either watermarking the output, capping it at a few seconds, or expecting you to run the model on your own GPU. The honest options are: run an open-source model locally if you can code, or use a browser tool with a free preview and pay per job.

What "upscaling" does and does not do
An upscaler does not reveal detail that was recorded. It predicts plausible detail from what is present. That has two consequences worth knowing before you judge a result:
- Text and small faces are where it shows. A licence plate that is six pixels wide will come back sharp and wrong.
- Source quality dominates. A clean 576p capture upscales far better than a re-compressed 720p download, even though the second one has more pixels.
Do colour first if the footage is black and white
Order matters. Colorize before upscaling: colorization works at moderate resolution anyway, and the upscaler then has colour information to reconstruct edges with. Doing it the other way round means you upscale grey pixels and then guess colour on a bigger canvas.
