As more Americans adopt AI tools, fewer say they can trust the results

As many as 76% of users declare that they trust results generated by artificial intelligence rarely or only sometimes, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll conducted on a group of nearly 1,400 respondents. Although the adoption of AI tools in areas such as research, copywriting, and data analysis is growing rapidly, technological enthusiasm is not matched by confidence in the reliability of the information received. Only 21% of those surveyed trust algorithms most of the time, exposing a deep crisis of confidence in the new technology. For the global community of creators and professionals, these data are a clear signal: AI is becoming an indispensable assistant, but it cannot be an autonomous source of truth. The practical implications for users mean the necessity of implementing a rigorous fact-checking process and verifying every generated paragraph or fragment of code. In an era of widespread language model hallucinations, critical thinking and human oversight (human-in-the-loop) are becoming the most important competencies in the labor market. This specific form of acceptance without trust creates a risky ecosystem. Companies that are the first to offer full auditability of their algorithms and take legal responsibility for their operation will win the loyalty of those 76% of distrustful Americans. The current state of suspension—where we use AI but do not trust it—is unsustainable in the long run and will lead to a rapid polarization of the market into "safe" and "uncontrolled" solutions.
